It appears like a box-like lump with a hole in it, but is actually comprised of two coiled up virtually identical pieces. You must try to take it apart by sliding and rotating the pieces. Although the pieces are angular in shape, they can be rotated in unexpected ways, making their movements quite intriguing. The theme of the puzzle is Loops.

Very good pocket puzzle to carry designed by Edi Nagata. At first upon openning the 2 pieces would not budge apart. Once they did move it became a great puzzle. I solved it several times without knowing how by just playing with it until it came apart. I now have it down and is one of the puzzles I love to share with others.

This is what it's all about.

Ah, the COIL. - This is to me a definitive cast puzzle. Deceptively challenging, I had a better time memorizing the solution to this one then I did initially solving it. It certainly is a fidget piece and so well constructed that it feels literally bulletproof. This one's currently been pissing off my coworker for the last 2 weeks. He's had me solve it twice now so he can note how he gets it apart, to put it back together. Equally challenging to take apart as it is to reconfigure. Great introduction piece for the new puzzler and a fine one for the collection. Giving it a 5 for design and aesthetics. But a 4 for difficultly. Although entertaining, pretty easy for the seasoned puzzler. But worth it!

Cast Coil Puzzle

As this is my first puzzle it took a few hours to figure out properly and I was very happy with it. Everyone I showed it to was able to figure it out once you got the idea of how it was designed.
